Every week Rachel and I attend a nerd gathering in Sydney that we call Mid Week Geek; at some point she ranted lyrical on her wish for an all female geek community and eventually Nerd Girl Army was born.
I'm a pretty hardcore geek, but I'm a goth, so I get to wear sexy boots, drink too much and play the bad grrl and no one notices just how much of a nerd I am until we start talking about software design and Sims legacies.
By day I work in the IT projects division of a large Australian telecommunications company mostly doing enterprise applications technical management and software implementations. I believe in software quality and formal methodologies with a religious fervour and have worked in pretty much every part of the SDLC from programming to business analysis. These days I spend most of my time screaming at Indian and Singaporean engineers for a living.
I don't really read Western comics unless they're pushed on me by friends but I'm a pretty tragic otaku and there's no maid themed harem ecchi that I haven't seen... and have the collectables for. I'm also a giant TV nerd and spend most of my days with anything and everything playing on my home MythTV network.
I grew up roleplaying but I don't really play much any more unless I'm at conventions. I've long since given up on CCGs and wargames because I refuse to pay for endless collectables just to play a game. I do have a fairly nice "classic" games collection though and I like to buy traditionally made games when I travel.
On my personal blog I write a semi frequent movie review segment called Non Spoilerific Movie Round Up that I will be continuing on the Nerd Girl Army and I follow up my interest in movies with a somewhat sick fascination with Awards Shows.
